Common Cleaning Mistakes

Is there anything worse than having a hard day, planning on enjoying your pool, getting home and realizing your pool has this lovely green color where it should be clear and blue?

Sometimes regardless of how much work and effort you put in your pool maintenance routines, the water ends up algae infested anyway. Let's take a look at why algae can form in your pool and create an unsafe, infested water source.

That kind of thing happens to just about every pool owner. Fortunately learning a little more about common cleaning mistakes can save you from this common occurrence happening too often. Let's look at a few reasons:

  • Behind in Your Regular Cleanings
  • No Checklist for Maintenance
  • Not Cleaning All of the Pool Parts
  • Airborn Debris

It's easy to lose track of the last time you shocked the water or cleaned out the filters.

Creating a checklist for these chores may help out.  Overuse and lack of use can both attribute to a build up of algae.  That's why it's so important to keep up with your maintenance routines.

Once you have made your checklist and can better keep track of what has and hasn't been done in terms of pool cleaning and chemical adding, there are certain chores you have to be sure to include.

The first is weekly cleaning.  This means all surfaces, as well as the ladder, steps, and any floats or toys used in the water.  Make sure to check the filter and pump on a regular basis to ensure that they are working properly.

Sometimes despite your best efforts, the pool still ends up with that unpleasant cloudy appearance.  This isn't the time to panic.   If you have followed your maintenance routine to the letter, it's time to look at other possible hazards.

Airborne problems like dust, nearby pesticide chemical use, and local construction can all increase the likelihood of problems with your pool water.  Try shock treatments and algaecides in the pool.

Staying away from the common mistakes and staying on track should help to keep things in order.
