Automatic Pool Cleaner Options

You have lots of options when it comes to choosing an automatic pool cleaner.

We will focus on a few of the most common automatic pool cleaner options on the market today.

Some of the brands out there include:

  • Dolphin
  • Barracuda
  • Hayward, and
  • Polaris

But before we jump in, lets just make sure we understand this weird piece of equipment .

An automatic pool cleaner is a small vacuum that is attached to a hose in your pool. When the pool pump and motor is turned on water is sucked from the pool into the filter. The pump will pull water through the hose, then through the automatic vacuum.

Typically there is some sort of fan inside the automatic pool cleaner. The water pressure from the hose spins the fan which then moves the vacuum around the swimming pool picking up debris. Since it moves around on it's own it is called automatic.

So let's talk about each of the brands.

The Dolphin cleaner is one of the more expensive options. Many people ask about this cleaner due to it's price tag. It does work effectively however the price can defer people from having a true interest. The only complaint we've heard is that the bag that can be difficult to detach and clean out.

The Polaris ATV in ground pool cleaner is our favorite. It is fairly priced and it gets to hard to reach places pretty well. Just like any automatic pool cleaner you will need to replace it at some point. But we have only had good customer reviews on this one.

There are a few types of Barracudas out there. Our experience is that the diaphram is finicky. The cleaner does a great job cleaning your swimming pool while it is working, but it has a tendancy to break down.

The Hayward NaviGator is the most popular pool cleaning device out there. It works alright and can stand up alright. It's not a bad choice if you really need something middle of the road. It can have some trouble climbing up walls and may not get as much debris as some of the other options.

Those are just our experiences and our customers' experiences. Of course you may have better or worse experiences than those above and we would love to hear about them.
